Teenage driver from Tupman dies in accident | News

A Tupman teenager was killed Tuesday afternoon when his car overturned and crashed into a home near the Tule Elk Reserve.

The accident was reported around 12:30 p.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the 18-year-old driver was traveling westbound on Station Road east of Tupman Road “at a high rate of speed” when the accident occurred.

“For unknown reasons, the driver of the Honda made an unsafe turning maneuver, which ultimately caused the Honda to leave the road, roll over and strike a residential building,” the CHP said in a press release.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

His name was not released. The people in the house were not injured, the CHP said.

The house suffered considerable damage.

Drugs or alcohol did not appear to play a role in the accident, the CHP said.

This was the second fatal traffic accident on the west side in two days. On Monday, a Lompoc woman was killed when a semi-truck collided with the pickup truck she was riding in on Highway 166 above Grocer Grade.
