Swatting incident at Austin High School triggers police operation

The Austin Independent School District says security measures have been taken at Austin High School due to a suspected swatting incident.

In a post just before 10 a.m., AISD said Austin ISD police responded to a 911 call that reportedly came from Austin High.

The campus has been placed on “safe” status, meaning students and staff will remain in place and no one will be allowed to enter or leave the building.

A few minutes later, AISD announced that the campus was safe and that officers were continuing to comb the Austin High building.

According to AISD, the search was completed around 10:45 a.m. and it was concluded that the campus was safe.

Authorities believe it was a swatting incident, which is the false reporting of an emergency that is intended to trigger an operation.

The closure has been lifted and normal operations have resumed.
