Kaskaskia College Board of Directors Appoints New Vice President of Administrative Services

The Kaskaskia College Board on Monday night removed Sara Hanks from her interim title of vice president of administrative services. The board also agreed to advertise the position of auditor to work with Hanks. The board also appointed Jeff Thomas of Mt. Vernon as purchasing director to replace Craig Roper after his retirement.

At the beginning of the meeting, Hanks reviewed the college's proposed budget for the fiscal year ending June 30.

“We have passed the FY25 budget. Our economic impact spending will be approximately $56 million,” Hanks said. “We expect to have nine months of reserves on the balance sheet as of June 30, 2025.”

For the current year, Hanks is expecting a deficit of $900,000, but is confident it can be eliminated over the course of the year. Fifty-five percent of the college's budget is allocated to salaries. College President George Evans says electricity costs are rising, but they have little recourse since the main campus is served by an electric cooperative.

The Board awarded a $293,000 contract to Rooters Asphalt to repave the entire agricultural parking lot and two new asphalt strips in the truck driver training parking lot.

The Board also awarded a $135,000 contract to KONE of St. Louis to repair the currently non-functioning elevator at the John D. Cavaletto Agriculture Center.
