N. Charleston High School student arrested for pulling a knife during a fight

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – A high school student was arrested after police said she admitted to pointing a pocket knife at another student during a fight.

In a report, North Charleston police said they were called to North Charleston High School at 1087 East Montague Avenue shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday, where a female student was carrying a weapon and attacking a male student.

The student, 18-year-old Amina Ramzi Ahmed, was charged with first-degree assault and possession of a weapon on school grounds.

Police said they questioned both the suspect and the victim, and officers separated the two before officers arrived.

Ahmed said she was sitting in class when the victim stepped on a bottle, splashing water in her direction. She said she retaliated by opening her reusable water cup and pouring the contents on the victim.

At that point, Ahmed said, the victim picked up the water bottle he had stepped on and threw it at her. She said this led to a struggle during which the victim struck her multiple times with the palm of his hand.

Ahmed claimed she then went to her backpack, got her pocket knife and drew the blade before attacking the victim. According to the report, staff were able to stop her and take possession of the knife.

The suspect said she acted this way because she was upset that people started laughing after the water incident and she said she pulled out the knife because a man hit her. She stated that she had the knife in her backpack because she was traveling.

Officers then spoke with the victim, who said he accidentally stepped on the water bottle. He claims the water bottle splashed another student, not Ahmed, and the events described occurred. He said Ahmed then “aggressively” charged at him, causing the student to back away, lose his balance, and hit his head on a filing cabinet.

The victim further said that Ahmed put her hands on him, grabbed him by the collar of his jacket and “lifted him up,” after which he punched her twice in the face.

He told police that the suspect then pulled the knife out of her backpack and approached him aggressively. He said the knife was open and she was holding it at about shoulder height as she approached him.

The victim claimed he was “shaken” and confused as events unfolded.

As Ahmed was charging toward the victim, school officials entered the classroom. The staff then grabbed her arm, shook the knife out of her hand and brought her to the ground.

According to police, the pocket knife was about 18 centimeters long in total and the blade was about 7.5 centimeters long.

Ahmed was taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center where she posted $15,000 bail.
