Man charged with DUI manslaughter in 2022 crash that killed Orlando cyclist

ORLANDO, Florida. ORLANDO, Fla. – A man arrested by Orange County police Tuesday is charged with manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol in a 2022 crash that killed a bicyclist in Orlando, according to the sheriff's office.

Michael Brandon King, 32, was arrested on a warrant and booked into the Orange County Jail, where he is being held without bail, according to records.

On the evening of December 30, 2022, King is accused of driving an SUV while intoxicated that struck a bicyclist traveling eastbound, in the same direction as the SUV, in the area of ​​5600 W. Sand Lake Road.

The cyclist – identified as William Membreno Sanchez, 42 – was later pronounced dead at the hospital as King's blood sample taken about six hours after the crash showed a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.147, according to King's arrest affidavit. A BAC of 0.08 is the legal limit in Florida.

King was arrested Tuesday after a deputy serving a warrant observed him leaving his residence and getting into a ride-hailing vehicle. Once King was in the vehicle, the deputy said he worked with “another fugitive agent” to contact King and get him safely to safety.
