Child seriously injured in domestic violence incident in Bridgeport

A child was hospitalized in critical condition on Wednesday following an incident of domestic violence in Bridgeport.

According to Tiadora Josef, public information director for the city of Bridgeport, emergency crews responded to the 2400 block of Main Street at 10 a.m. after receiving calls about a domestic incident.

The incident involved a mother and her two children, who were described as victims, Josef said. One of the children was taken to a nearby hospital and was in critical condition.

According to Josef, one suspect was in police custody. She said the incident did not pose an “ongoing threat to the community.”

Josef said city officials recommend that victims of domestic violence seek help from agencies such as the Center for Family Justice.

“This nonprofit agency provides counseling, assistance and support to help victims of domestic violence become survivors,” Josef said in a statement. “Victims of domestic violence can contact the Center for Family Justice hotline at 203-384-9559.”

Another available resource is the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The association operates a toll-free hotline available 24 hours a day at 1-888-774-2900 (English) or 1-888-831-9200 (Spanish).

Both services are free and confidential.
