Chaparral High School cordoned off; no credible threat identified

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) – Numerous police officers were dispatched to a high school in Scottsdale on Wednesday morning following a threat.

Scottsdale police said a threat related to another allegation was made at Chaparral High School, near the intersection of Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard.

The school was on lockdown while officers worked to clear the school. A full search of the campus was completed around 10:15 a.m.

Scottsdale police said no credible threat to students or staff was identified. No injuries were reported.

Police asked residents to avoid the campus until the all-clear was given.

In recent weeks, several local students have been arrested for making false threats.

Surprise police said on Sept. 24 that a 14-year-old student was arrested for allegedly making a threat against Valley Vista High School. Investigators say the student was not armed and there was no threat to the community. On Sept. 9, another 14-year-old was arrested for making similar threats in Surprise. In that case, the student said he made the threats as a “dare.”

In Buckeye, a 12-year-old boy left a voicemail to a former teacher at Desert Sunset Elementary School on Sept. 21, threatening to “shoot up” a class. He was arrested Monday night, and police say the threat was not credible.

This is the second incident of this kind for Buckeye Police. Just recently, a 12-year-old girl was arrested for threatening a school in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Last week, a teenager was arrested in connection with threats at twelve Phoenix-area schools.

Law enforcement authorities have urged the public not to share threats seen on social media and to contact local police instead.
