Driver who caused four-vehicle crash may have been reading a book

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) — The Rochester Police Department (RPD) and Rochester Fire Department were on the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on Broadway Avenue South near the intersection of 12 Street SE near Chick Fil-A.

According to RPD, four vehicles were involved in the crash. Emergency crews rescued two drivers from the vehicles and took them to St. Marys with non-life-threatening injuries.

An RPD officer on scene stated that the cause of the accident was an inattentive driver, possibly because the person was reading a book.

“I just wanted to make sure everyone is aware that the police in Minnesota want to prevent hands-free driving,” said Officer Joe Mueller. “Make sure your hands are free, please don't read books, don't eat while driving and definitely don't use your cell phone.”

According to RPD, the intersection has been cleared and is now open to normal traffic.
