Woman arrested for burglary after breaking into stranger's home and cooking dinner

MADISON, Wis. (AP) – A woman who made herself so comfortable in the home of a seemingly stranger in Wisconsin that she prepared a dinner of shrimp and pasta has been arrested for burglary.

When the resident of the home returned home late Tuesday night, the lights were on and someone was in the house, a Madison police report said.

The woman was leisurely walking around the house when officers showed up and asked her to come to the door. She “calmly told officers that she had the resident's permission to enter the home,” the report states.

The woman also identified the resident by name to officers and said she had received the house keys earlier in the day after meeting the resident at a cafe.

In addition to cooking a meal, “the woman apparently examined mail and other items to find out the resident's name and create a story,” the police report continued.

The resident of the house insisted to officers that she had never met the woman, who was later arrested.

Madison is located about 80 miles (129 kilometers) west of Milwaukee.
