Mikel Arteta: Arsenal boss defends tactics in 2-2 draw with Manchester City

David Raya, Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Martinelli suffered cramps in the second half at the Etihad, leading to accusations of time-wasting.

But Arteta says the Gunners will be without injured players for Wednesday's EFL Cup match against Bolton.

“I always prefer facts to words or assumptions,” said Arteta.

“Let's see who has time tomorrow and then we can talk about dark arts or things like that.

“Yes, unfortunately some players will not be available.”

When asked if any of the injuries he sustained against City were serious, Arteta said: “We will have to wait and see. One of them.”

Trossard received his second booking at the Etihad Stadium after kicking the ball away following a foul on Bernardo Silva.

It was the second time this season that an Arsenal player had been sent off for such an offence, with Declan Rice being sent off against Brighton in August.

When asked if he had to warn his players about this rule, Arteta replied: “For passing the ball [away] do you think so? I think so… just leave the ball, don't touch the ball. We're playing without the ball.”
