A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family of a firefighter who was seriously injured in a truck accident in Irvine, Orange County, last week.

IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) — A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family of a firefighter who was seriously injured in a truck accident in Orange County last week.

Matthew Nichols is in a coma and fighting for his life after Thursday's rollover accident on Freeway 241 in Irvine.

At that time, eight firefighters were returning from a 12-hour shift at the front lines of the massive airport fire.

Eight firefighters were taken to nearby hospitals after an Orange County wildfire rescue vehicle crashed in Irvine.

A vehicle driving in front of the fire truck swerved to avoid a ladder and the fire truck also skidded, hit the guardrail on the right shoulder and rolled over several times, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Eight firefighters were injured in the incident, six of them seriously.

Nichols and his wife have a 6-month-old son named Theodore. The GoFundMe campaign will help cover child care costs during his recovery.
