Gainesville woman arrested for machete attack on her daughter's boyfriend

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Yolonda Rontres Robinson, 50, was arrested last night and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly attacking her daughter's boyfriend with a machete.

The victim told an Alachua County Sheriff's deputy who responded that Robinson's daughter had invited him to the MAA Steeplegate apartment (1105 Fort Clarke Blvd), but he knew Robinson did not approve of the relationship and had threatened to hurt him with a machete if he came to the apartment.

The victim allegedly said he didn't care if Robinson had a machete and thought she was bluffing. However, when he entered the apartment, Robinson allegedly approached him with the machete and said, “Oh, you don't care?”

The victim reportedly lifted a piece of luggage in front of him and Robinson allegedly attacked it with the machete, leaving two three-inch cuts and scratches where the blade struck the luggage but did not cut it.

The victim allegedly left the apartment and contacted police. Robinson was allegedly stopped and arrested by an officer nearby.

Robinson was convicted of three misdemeanors (one of them for a violent crime). Judge Meshon Rawls ordered her released on parole.
