Liverpool vs West Ham, Arsenal vs Bolton and more: Carabao Cup and Europa League – live | Carabao Cup

Important events

GOAL! Arsenal 2-0 Bolton (Nwaneri 37)

Arsenal step up their attack and Sterling's perfect low cross finds the teenager who scores his first goal for the Gunners. The home side have everything under control.

GOAL! Liverpool 0-1 West Ham (Quansah 21 og)

What a mess! After a West Ham corner, Liverpool panic as they try to clear the ball. Cresswell does well to keep the ball alive and as Endo tries to clear the ball, he hits 21-year-old Quansah and fires it into the net.

share

Liverpool 0-0 West Ham: West Ham have the ball in the net through Ings but the flag goes up. No VAR here so play goes on.

GOAL! Nice 0-1 Real Sociedad (Barrenetxea 18)

Fantastic attack from the Spanish. The counterattack and Méndez finds Barrenetxea with plenty of space, who shoots directly and hits the top right corner.

share

Arsenal 1-0 Bolton: A corner allows McAtee to shoot from the middle of the box, but he leans back and the ball goes well over the bar. On the replay you can see that his own team-mate Forino is also blocking his view, which doesn't help. Good defending, but for the wrong team!

share

Liverpool 0-0 West Ham: Close call for West Ham! After a foul by Endo, the Hammers take a free kick and Todibo's header goes wide of the far post. Bowen tries again shortly after, but Kelleher saves.

share

Liverpool 0-0 West Ham: The visitors are using the same tactics that Forest used when they beat Slot's side at Anfield and so far it's working. A long ball comes in but is too long for Gakpo and goes out of play, leading to a goal kick.

GOAL! Dynamo Kyiv – Lazio Rome 0:1 (Slide 4)

Terrible defensive effort from the home side. The ball bounces back and forth in the box but it's a flurry of yellow shirts taking every pass and the Senegalese charges forward, gets the ball on his right and fires a low goal past Bushchan.

GOAL! Arsenal 1-0 Bolton (Rice 16)

Bolton must have known that Arsenal would punish any mistake. Arfield misses the ball completely and it falls to Rice, who touches it and shoots low past Southwood.

We're ready to go at Anfield, Liverpool in red and West Ham, who are kicking us off, in white and maroon.

10 minutes: Sterling tries to dribble through a multitude of green shirts, but just as he gets through them all, he takes the ball too hard and Southwood intercepts it.

share

8 minutes: Sterling crosses to Saka, who passes the ball to Jesus, who gets past three defenders and chests the ball but can't get his shot on target.

share

4 minutes: Bolton win the ball high up as Arfield and McAtee combine well. The latter loses control of the ball and backheels it, but his team-mate fires it over the bar.

share

3 minutes: Arsenal charge forward and patiently play the ball around Bolton's low block. Sterling charges forward with the ball. He thinks he has won a corner but the referee signals otherwise.

Mikel Arteta speaks before the game about the starting player Porter, the 16-year-old:

He's a great character. It's a big jump for him, but what an experience.

On the mix of experienced players and young players in the starting eleven:

I want them to show what they show every day in training. The young players are surrounded by many experienced players. They have been waiting for this. You could see it yesterday in the smiles on their faces when I told them.

About Sterling:

He's making the right moves. He's in really good shape physically. He's been waiting to get started.

About Bolton:

I heard they have 4,000 fans here tonight. It's a special night for them and it's going to be a tough game.

Already some early emails!

Anthony regrets Arteta’s decision:

Why, oh why risk Saka?

Marcus wants his team to turn back the years:

I'm confident Bolton can live up to their class of 1994 against this Arsenal team. I don't want to curse it, but they can certainly beat a 16-year-old goalkeeper.

Summary:

Big challenge for Julen Lopetegui. Yes, he has made changes, but they are still experienced players. So far, this new era at West Ham has not impressed me. Hopefully we haven't just signed Moyes 2.0! COYI

Coachman:

I don't care what people say, I love the Europa League. Nice vs Real Sociedad is the best game tonight for me.

The Europa League has been expanded to 36 teams and the format has changed significantly. Ryan Benson has fired up the supercomputer Opta, which tells us that Porto are the favourites (even though they are losing at the moment), Manchester United are sixth favourites due to their inconsistency and José Mourinho's Fenerbahce are the underdogs.

Find out what else the supercomputer has to say below.

Bolton may have slipped down the English rankings, but when they were still playing in the top division they were considered a bogey team for Arsenal. Stelios Giannakopoulos and Justin Hoyte share their memories of how Big Sam liked to spoil Arsène Wenger's party in the league.

However, they also had some good moments against the Gunners in cup competitions.
