Alex Singelton is out for the rest of the season due to cruciate ligament tear

Denver will be without one of its most important defensive players for the rest of the season.

Head coach Sean Payton announced at the start of his press conference on Wednesday that linebacker Alex Singleton suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's win over the Buccaneers. Singleton will be placed on the injured list.

Singleton didn't miss a single defensive snap in Week 3 despite suffering the injury midway through the game. Payton said he played two-thirds of the game despite the injury.

“Then he reported that he was feeling some pain,” Payton said in his press conference. “They looked at it, we looked at it again and, in fact, he's scheduled for surgery in about two weeks.”

Singleton is in his third season with the Broncos. In three games this year, he has recorded a total of 31 tackles, including one for a loss, one interception and one QB hit.

As a corresponding move, Payton said the Broncos will sign Tyler Badie from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. He rushed for 70 yards on nine carries in the win over Tampa Bay.
