Former Indiana deputy sheriff accused of using fake Facebook profile to harass elementary school teacher he was dating

JAY COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) – A former Jay County Sheriff's Department deputy is accused of using an investigative Facebook page to harass a woman he once went on a date with.

Derek Bogenschutz, 36, was charged with identity fraud following an investigation by the Indiana State Police. He was arrested in Miami County and is expected to be returned to Jay County later this week.

Bogenschutz is accused of using a Facebook account under the name “Katie Morgan” to harass a West Jay Elementary School teacher he once dated, according to an affidavit filed by ISP Detective Matthew Teusch.

Bogenschutz, a former sergeant, also previously worked as a part-time security officer at the woman's school.

According to court documents, Bogenschutz allegedly contacted the teacher through the Facebook profile of “Katie Morgan” and claimed that the woman’s boyfriend, a Union City Police Department officer, was “playing” with both of them.

Bogenschutz is also accused of sending screenshots of conversations in which it appeared as if the friend and “Katie” were arguing about him talking to other women.

Bogenschutz received a five-day unpaid leave of absence and a 30-day suspension from using his rideshare car in 2019 after a citizen filmed him driving “uncontrollably,” WRTV reported.
