Royals end losing streak with 1-0 win in overtime

After a week of losing baseball, the Royals managed to defeat the Nationals 1-0 in overtime, ending a seven-game losing streak that began last Sunday.

The game was nothing more than a duel of pitchers for the first nine innings. Cole Ragan pitched six scoreless innings and Washington starter Mitchell Parker kept a clean sheet in five innings against Kansas City.

Unlike Ragan, Parker faced a lot of threats on the bases. He loaded all bases in the first inning without striking out anyone, but escaped with a lineout that led to a double play and a nifty grounder back to the mound.

Both bullpens were phenomenal. The Nationals went four scoreless innings after Parker left, and the Royals got zero runs from Bubic, Long and Zerpa – sending the game into overtime.

In the 10th inning, the Royals managed to end their 27-inning scoreless streak. After a slow roller by Bobby Witt Jr., Washington drove the play, allowing Kyle Isbel to score from third base.

In the second half, Lucas Erceg slammed the door shut. But not without drama. Joey Gallo could have left the game just a few feet away after a long fly ball to right field. But the ball went out of bounds. On the next pitch, Erceg whizzed past him at 99 miles per hour and ended the game.

The Royals, 83-74, will be looking for a series win tomorrow. Michael Lorenzen returns against DJ Herz. First pitch is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. CT.
