Man arrested after mushroom overdose of two students at local middle school

COLORADO SPRINGS – According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), a man was arrested after two students at Fox Meadow Middle School overdosed on mushrooms.

According to police, it happened around 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday. The students were taken to Memorial Children's Hospital for medical treatment.

According to our news partners at The Gazette, the students have been treated and released to their families, who have the resources to support them. Our news partners also say Harrison School District 2 will continue to support them as they return to school.

After investigation, 21-year-old Damien Solano was arrested on the following charges, according to CSPD:

  • four cases of unauthorised distribution, manufacture, dispensing or sale of a DF1
  • a case of unauthorized distribution, manufacture, dispensing or sale (attempt) of a DF2
  • four cases of inducing minors to commit crimes

During the investigation, the CSPD discovered that four youths between the ages of 12 and 16 had contacted an adult dealer the previous evening via a telephone app.
According to the CSPD investigation, the deal took place in the parking lot of the King Soopers on Cheyenne Meadows Road. CSPD investigators worked with the parents of the juveniles involved and were able to confiscate the remaining mushrooms.

Investigators also managed to contact the dealer. An investigator posed as one of the juveniles involved and arranged another deal. Investigators then arrested Solano, who was carrying approximately two ounces of mushrooms at the time of the arrest.
