Man arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, several people hospitalized after accident

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A man was arrested and several people were hospitalized following a crash Tuesday on Madison's north side, city officials reported Wednesday.

According to MPD, officers responded to the area of ​​Northport Drive and Mandrake Road.

Police said a driver crashed into a pole after being distracted by his dog. After hitting the pole, the vehicle ended up in the oncoming lane, where it was struck by another driver, according to police.

Several people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, MPD reported.

Authorities said the second driver, a 23-year-old man, was arrested for first offense OWI after showing signs of intoxication.

He was later released. The Madison Fire Department also arrived at the scene.
