Ridgeland officer rescued from car after accident

A Ridgeland police officer had to be rescued after an accident in Madison County that occurred on the Interstate 220 ramp Wednesday evening. According to Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers, the officer was in the shoulder of northbound I-220 when he was struck by a brick truck. The officer had to be extricated from his car. He and the truck driver were taken to a hospital. Neither will be hurt. Myers said speed may have been a factor in the accident.

A Ridgeland police officer had to be rescued after an accident in Madison County.

It happened during the evening rush hour on the Interstate 220 ramp on Wednesday.

Ridgeland Chief Brian Myers said the officer was on the shoulder of northbound I-220 when he was struck by a masonry truck.

The officer had to be freed from his car. He and the truck driver were taken to a hospital. Both are expected to be OK.

Myers said speed may have played a role in the accident.
