Man arrested for 11-year-old brandishing knife and gun in Camas

CAMAS, Wash. (KPTV) – A man who was mentoring an 11-year-old boy who was brandishing a knife and gun outside Skyridge Middle School in Camas was arrested Tuesday night.

Around 8 p.m., police were called to Skyridge Middle School because someone was waving a gun.

The operations center informed the police that sixth-graders were involved in the incident, the weapons were secured in a truck, and everyone involved was waiting at the scene.

When officers arrived, they found multiple firearms and a knife involved. An 11-year-old who was on scene had all of the weapons on him during the incident.

The police confiscated the two weapons. The adult who was responsible for the eleven-year-old cooperated and was arrested.

The man was charged with endangering the public due to improper storage of a weapon.

The 11-year-old was referred to the juvenile prosecutor's office due to his age.

Although the incident occurred on campus, it had no connection to Skyridge Middle School activities, Camas police said.

“We are very relieved that there were no injuries in this incident,” said Police Chief Tina Jones. “At this time, there is no indication of an ongoing threat to public safety related to this incident. The investigation is ongoing and we are working closely with the Camas School District administration, focusing on the safety of the school and the community.”
