JSO Officer Arrested, Accused of Inappropriately Touching Driver During Traffic Stop – 104.5 WOKV

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A former Jacksonville sheriff's officer has been arrested and accused of inappropriately touching a woman he stopped for driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff TK Waters announced Wednesday that 46-year-old Reginald McKinney is charged with assault and false imprisonment.

“I am very upset that he did this because it undermines the public's trust in JSO,” Waters said during a press conference.

He said McKinney resigned after the arrest and is no longer employed by JSO. Action News Jax first told you about McKinney's arrest Tuesday night.

According to a police report, the 46-year-old stopped the victim for a suspended license and told her he had turned off his body camera. He then took her to his car to show her a warrant to confiscate her license plates.

The report states that he told the victim he would not confiscate the license plates, then complimented her on being “perfectly fine” and asked for her number.

Waters said it was a serious violation of agency policies.

“This should not happen under any circumstances,” he said.

Waters said McKinney then told the victim to follow him up the street, where they stopped, and he touched her inappropriately.

The report states that the victim “felt fear because the suspect said he had turned off his body-worn camera” and also because of the “nighttime and remote location.”

“If a police officer asks you to go somewhere else and it is not an official incident, such as an arrest, ask to speak to a supervisor,” Waters said.

McKinney was hired by JSO in April 2022. Prior to joining JSO, he served as a deputy with the Clay County Sheriff's Office for four years. Action News Jax also learned that he was a local funeral director.

According to documents, the suspect's bail was set at $3,000 and he was released from jail.
