A Wisconsin woman was arrested Tuesday after allegedly breaking into a home and pretending to know the resident.

The suspect, Joanna Kelly Lee, was charged with burglary and trespassing, according to Madison police. She was arrested around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said they became aware of the incident after the resident of the house came home around 10:30 p.m. and saw someone inside.

Madison police told Fox News Digital that the victim was “shocked to see that all the lights were on since she had been gone most of the day.”

“Police arrived and observed through the windows a woman leisurely walking around the interior of the home,” the department's statement said. “The woman, later identified as Joanna K. Lee, came to the door at the direction of police.”

Authorities said Lee “calmly informed” police that she was allowed to enter the home and even mentioned the resident by name.

“Lee gave a detailed account of how she had previously met the resident at a cafe and received the keys to the house,” police said. “Lee was in the house long enough to cook herself a dinner of shrimp and noodles.”

“However, the resident insisted that she had never met Lee and that Lee did not have permission to be in her home and eat her food.”

Authorities later determined that the suspect had been searching the resident's mail to find out her name and fabricate a story. She was promptly arrested and is being held in the Dane County Jail.
