Cirrus SR22 plane crashes in yard near Austin, Texas: police

According to officials, two people were involved in the crash of the small plane near Lakeway Airpark.

LAKEWAY, Texas – An investigation is underway after a small plane crashed in Lakeway.

The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when the plane left the runway after landing, according to Lakeway police. Austin-Travis County Emergency Services said two people were involved in the crash, which occurred in the backyard of a home on Triton Court, next to Lakeway Airpark.

Authorities said one person was taken to St. David's South Austin with possible serious injuries. The second person was treated at the scene, authorities said.

Police added that a tree was also damaged in the incident. The cause of the accident is still unknown.


The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash, with the NTSB taking the lead. The FAA released the following statement on its preliminary investigation:

“A single-engine Cirrus SR22 crashed in Lakeway, Texas, at approximately 6:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday, September 25. Two people were on board. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident. The NTSB will lead the investigation and provide updates.”
