Arkansas State Police chase in Fort Smith ends with PIT maneuver and drug arrest

FORT SMITH – A State Police chase in Fort Smith Monday evening resulted in the arrest of a suspect wanted by the Sebastian County Sheriff's Office on an outstanding drug warrant, police said.

Dylan Anderson, 28, of Fort Smith, was arrested on charges of trafficking in controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing, driving without a license, violating probation and other charges.

On Monday, the 12th and 21st Judicial Task Force requested assistance from Arkansas State Police in arresting Anderson on an outstanding warrant for drug charges, according to a state police news release.

Officers found Anderson in a green Chevrolet Cruze on Grand Avenue near North 32nd Street around 10:30 p.m. and initiated a traffic stop. Anderson fled east on Kinkead Avenue, the release states. Pursuing officers used a precision immobilization technique, also known as a PIT maneuver, on Anderson's vehicle, causing him to crash in the 600 block of North 34th Street.

During the pursuit, Anderson threw a bag from his vehicle, the release states. Officers recovered the bag, which police said contained more than 100 fentanyl pills, psilocybin mushrooms, illegal marijuana and 1½ pounds of methamphetamine.

Anderson was treated for minor injuries at Baptist Health-Fort Smith and then taken to the Sebastian County Detention Center, where he was being held Wednesday on $11,850 bail.
