Drew Doughty of the Los Angeles Kings suffers a lower body injury in the game against the Vegas Golden Knights

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty suffered a lower-body injury during the first half of Wednesday's game against the Vegas Golden Knights, the team announced.

Doughty hit the boards hard during a puck duel with Golden Knights forward Tanner Pearson and remained lying on the ice, holding his left leg.

The 34-year-old was looked after by the training staff before being accompanied by his teammates to the bench and straight to the dressing room without putting any strain on his left side.

After the incident, the team suspended him for the remainder of the game.

Doughty played all 82 games for the Kings last season, scoring 15 goals and 35 assists for a plus-15 rating.

He also appeared in five playoff games, scoring two goals with one assist.

The London, Ontario native was selected second overall by the Kings in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and has spent his entire 16-year career with the franchise.

He was a member of the 2011–12 and 2013–14 Stanley Cup winning teams.
