Spirit Lake man accused of shooting in Montgomery earlier this year pleads guilty and reduces charges

Spirit Lake, Iowa – A plea deal appears to have been negotiated in the case of a Spirit Lake man involved in a shooting in Montgomery earlier this year. Caleb Crosby was originally charged with attempted murder and theft in 1st Degree. Online court records show Crosby faces an amended charge of malicious wounding, a Class C felony, and theft in the 1st degree, also a class C felony. Sentencing is scheduled for October 28th.

Crosby is accused of shooting his father in his Montgomery home at around 5:20 p.m. on May 28.th of this year. A criminal complaint alleges that Crosby then stole a pickup truck from the same house. He was found and arrested a short time later that same evening in Osceola County.

Crosby was originally scheduled to go on trial on October 15.th.

Crosby was also charged with escape from custody on June 1 of this year after allegedly attempting to flee the Dickinson County Jail. According to court records, he pleaded guilty to that charge as well and is scheduled to be sentenced on that charge on October 28 as well.
