How to watch

Watch the Season 13 Premiere Chicago Fire Wednesday, September 25, 9/8c on NBC.

“As you probably already know, I am Battalion Chief Dom Pascal. 27 years on the force,” Pascal told Firehouse 51 after arriving for his first day in Season 13, Episode 1. “I want to make a few things clear right from the start: I have the utmost respect for DC Wallace Boden (Eammon Walker) and it is a true honor to be here in his former position. But I am not Chief Boden. I don't want to be. I have my own leadership style. I do things my own way, so you should all expect there to be some changes at Firehouse 51.”

So who is the new chief of the Windy City Fire Department? Below, find out everything we know about Dom Pascal.

Who is Dermot Mulroney's Chicago Fire Character, boss Dom Pascal?

Mulroney made his Chicago Fire Debuting in the season 13 premiere (“Monster in the Field”) as the new chief of Fire Station 51 following Boden's promotion to deputy commissioner, Pascal spent his first 10 years as a firefighter in Chicago before moving to Miami, only to return to the Windy City.

The entire Fire Station 51 was nervous about Pascal's arrival until they saw him in action on a call to a tobacco shop. The incident provided Pascal with the perfect opportunity to show the firefighters what he could do. As butane tanks burst and bullets rained down on the firefighters, Pascal gave clear instructions before bravely running into the chaos without a shield to help evacuate civilians. From the start, Pascal showed he's no desk jockey – he's practical and commanding.

“I think he’s missing the fear gene,” shouted Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) as she watched Pascal run into the flames.

Chief Pascal introduced some changes at Firehouse 51

Pascal is efficient and direct and believes that a firefighter's most valuable asset is knowledge. After the rule was introduced that firefighters had to put their phones in a bucket during meal times so they had more contact, 51 was upset.

“With all due respect, boss, but most of us have known each other for years,” Joe Cruz (Joe Miñoso) told him.

“That's where the problems start,” Pascal warned them. “You stop asking questions and finding out new things. When your life depends on knowing the firefighter on your left and right on every call and what they're going to do next, there's no such thing as 'too familiar.'”

Pascal wasn't finished with his rule changes either. He called Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo, Chris Herrmann (David Eigenberg) and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) into his office to let the lieutenants know that there would be new debriefings after each call.

During his meeting with Severide, Pascal pointed out the rule in the CFD handbook that states that immediate family members cannot work the same shift at the same station. (This means that he and Stella being married is technically breaking the rules.) The conflict of interest could be dangerous, and Boden has been ignoring this rule for years.

“It seems to me that you've both found a way to deal with it, considering how long you've been working together,” Pascal remarked to Severide about him and Stella.

“Yes, sir,” Severide assured him. “We have it under control.”

“OK, but be aware that I will be keeping an eye on this,” Pascal warned.

Chief Pascal’s dark past in Miami caught up with him

On his first day at Firehouse 51, Pascal received a visit from an old CFD colleague. While the visit started out joyful, the conversation took a new turn when his friend mentioned Pascal's past in Miami.

“Look, I don't want to go too far, but we were very close back then,” his friend began. “I heard what happened in Miami. Are you OK?”

Pascal's entire demeanor changed with the nature of the questioning. “Absolutely,” Pascal choked out. “It's all good.”

“Are you sure?” asked the friend. “Because I heard-“

“Most CFDs don't even know I'm here,” Pascal interrupted. “You must be pretty up to date, right?”

Pascal quickly ended the call to return to his work, leaving Chi-Hards baffled. What had happened in Miami to cause Pascal's war-torn expression?

Chief Dom Pascal’s family life is rocky

At the end of “Monster in the Field,” viewers saw Pascal come home from work to find that he was locked out.

Shocked and angry, Pascal shouted to his wife Monica (KaDee Strickland) to open the door. Monica opened a window to talk to her husband.

“I'm not happy, Dom,” Monica told him. “I think you should stay somewhere else.”

“Well, first of all, my name is on the lease,” Pascal reminded her.

“Then I can go,” Monica agreed.

“No, I want you to be here,” Pascal clarified. “I want to work on it.”

“It seems like all you want to do is work,” Monica snapped. “Day and night, like always.”

“I told you the hours would be crazy at first,” Pascal said.

“You should have stayed in Miami,” Monica snapped. After Pascal reminded her that he moved to Chicago to be with her and refused to give up on their marriage, Monica began to calm down.

“Monica, you'll need me to keep you warm when winter sets in in Chicago,” Pascal argued. “You got weak in Miami.”

Monica then seemed to thaw. “Open the door,” Pascal urged her. Finally, Monica came to.

“You are a lucky guy,” Monica said after finally unlocking the front door.

“I know,” Pascal said before lowering herself to a passionate kiss.
