Video shows a gun being pulled during a fight outside San Antonio ISD high school

SAN ANTONIO – Fear is the feeling a parent of a Burbank High School student felt as he watched the video showing his child involved in a fight Monday afternoon.

“I couldn't believe it,” the parent of a Burbank High School student told KSAT. “Why isn't anyone helping?”

Several video clips circulated on social media and in the Burbank community this week showing a fight just steps away from campus that only ended when someone pulled out a gun.

Some of these videos were sent to KSAT by concerned viewers.

One parent we spoke to asked us not to reveal his face or name. He said he is the father of a child who appears in the recorded videos.

The parents said they were not present when the fight broke out, but their child left frightened.

“No child should have to worry about that,” the parent said. “That's not what school is for. He shouldn't have to be on guard.”

KSAT reached out to the San Antonio Independent School District for more information about the incident.

SAISD responded with an email that also went to the families of Burbank High School students. Below is a summary of the email's contents:

• The fight took place on Monday, September 23rd, before 5 p.m.

• The fight took place on the Burbank Loop

• It was reported that someone had pulled out a gun

• The officers responded and arrested the person

• Officers have the weapon

• SAISD said the person was not a student at Burbank High School

• SAISD said the weapon was not on campus that day

“Student safety is the highest priority at SAISD schools and we want to keep families updated on the situation as quickly as possible,” Burbank High School Principal Irene Talamantes said in the email.

The parent KSAT spoke to said they still have questions.

“How can I feel safe when the children go back to school?” asked the parent. “You have no answer.”

San Antonio police referred KSAT back to SAISD. The district also sent KSAT an email that went out to families at Joel C. Harris Middle School.

It is not yet clear whether the fight near Burbank High School has any connection to the middle school.
