Champions! LAFC wins US Open Cup against Sporting Kansas City

In front of a raucous crowd at BMO Stadium, LAFC exorcised the demons it suffered after four consecutive final losses, including the 2024 Leagues Cup and the 2023 MLS Cup presented by Audi against the Columbus Crew. They had previously won the 2022 MLS Cup.

Omar Campos made LAFC history when he scored the winning goal in overtime with a low shot into the far post in the 102nd minute.

Seven minutes later, Kei Kamara seized a cross from Denis Bouanga and headed home the winning goal against a Sporting team he helped to the USOC title 12 years ago.

French football legend Olivier Giroud opened the scoring (53') with his second goal in a final for LAFC since joining from AC Milan this summer, curling home a low cross from Mateusz Bogusz.

LAFC's initial lead was short-lived, however. Sporting KC midfielder Erik Thommy slammed the equalizer under the crossbar after an hour.

But thanks to goals from Campos and Kamara in overtime, LAFC celebrated its third title under head coach Steve Cherundolo.
