Two-vehicle accident leads to driving charges – Peak of Ohio

On Tuesday morning, a two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of West Chillicothe Avenue and South Main Street, resulting in one driver being cited for multiple violations.

According to Bellefontaine Police, Unit #1, driven by Key Jenkins, 52, of Bellefontaine, was stopped at a red light on West Chillicothe Avenue.

Brent Swartz, 55, of Bellefontaine was driving north on South Main Street and approached the intersection on a green light.

Jenkins was allegedly distracted and drove into the intersection when the light was red.

Swartz attempted to brake, but slipped on the wet road and collided with Jenkins' vehicle.

Police determined that Jenkins was driving despite a suspended license issued by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Jenkins stated that he drove his roommate's vehicle to the Bellefontaine Municipal Court to pay a fine.

He said his roommate was sleeping in the apartment when he left and acknowledged that he entered the intersection without stopping, treating it like a stop sign instead of obeying the traffic light.

Jenkins was charged with running a red light and driving while license suspended.

No injuries were reported in the accident; both vehicles sustained minor damage.
