Niecy Nash-Betts wants to see Travis Kelce play after ‘Grotesquerie’ (exclusive)

Niecy Nash-Betts has a date with the Kansas City Chiefs!

The actress who starred in Ryan Murphy’s grotesque alongside Travis Kelce, tells PEOPLE she's ready to return the favor and watch the 34-year-old tight end in action after witnessing him step out of his comfort zone for his first-ever TV role.

“If he comes to play here, my better half and I will be at the game,” she said, referring to her wife, Jessica Betts. “So yes, I will see him, but I also saw him play in the Super Bowl. But we didn't know each other then.”

“It's different now,” she says of the game she's experienced since working with Kelce. “At first it was like in the game, but now it's like, 'Oh, there's my friend Travis. Hey Travis!' It's different. Now it's personal.”

When Kelce arrived on the set of the new thriller series, the mood changed completely, according to 54-year-old Nash-Betts.

“It was funny because I saw people's reaction to him before I could really see him. All the guys – those big guys on the set, the lighting guys, the transport and everyone – [they] were just fangirls the whole time. And I was like, 'Oh my God, guys.'”

“But it was wonderful having Travis on set. Very charming, very funny,” she continues. “He was very professional and always came prepared. He's particularly greedy, so he eats a lot, but he's just a nice guy in front of and behind the camera.”

In their scenes together, Kelce was “very open,” says the Emmy winner, who plays a small-town detective who investigates a series of heinous crimes.

“He was very open when it came to comments or suggestions. So accommodating. 'Tell me what I don't know. Tell me what you think about it.' And I love that he didn't act like he knew everything and I knew it too.”

Although Kelce was unable to reunite with the cast at the show's Sept. 23 premiere in New York City – the Chiefs had narrowly defeated the Atlanta Falcons the night before in their first away game of the season – his mother, Donna Kelce, was in attendance to represent the family.

“I think that's something that was always in the back of his mind,” she told PEOPLE of his scripted television debut. “I just think he thought, 'If I get the opportunity, I'd love to try it. [acting].'”

“He's pretty good at almost everything he does because he has a good work ethic, so we'll see,” she added.
