Star of a reality TV series died at the age of 58 from the consequences of a stabbing

Eduardo Xol, star of ABC's “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” died last week from injuries sustained in a stabbing.

Xol died on September 20 following an incident on September 10 in Palm Springs.

Palm Springs police said in a Sept. 10 press release that officers responded to a call for assistance at 5:41 a.m., which matches the time the Riverside County Sheriff reported the incident involving Xol at the same address.

Officers found a man “sustaining significant injuries consistent with an assault.” According to the press release, he told them he had been stabbed and was taken to a local hospital. According to USA Today, police said Xol told them he had been stabbed.

Police arrested 34-year-old Richard Joseph Gonzalez after he called them and claimed he had been attacked the previous night. According to USA Today, Gonzalez was originally arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, but police have now requested that he be charged with murder.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our beloved Eduardo Xol,” his family said in a statement to USA Today. “As his family, we know his kindness touched the lives of so many. We now ask for your kindness to be reciprocated and for our privacy to be respected while we process our grief.”
