Derrick Rose makes big announcement the same week he parts ways with the Grizzlies

If you're wondering what will happen next with Derrick Rose, you won't have to wait long.

The veteran guard became a free agent earlier this week after the Memphis Grizzlies released him from his existing contract. Rose had one season remaining at a price of $3.3 million. It is unclear exactly what prompted the two sides to reach this agreement.

Although the Grizzlies have a stacked backcourt that would likely have left Rose out, the veteran could still have provided a valuable locker room presence. That's why it seems like a decision that could have been a big part of Rose's push, and Rose all but confirmed that on Wednesday night.

The former superstar posted a cryptic video to his Instagram page with the caption, “The Renascence 9.26.24.” Not only is Rose seen in a clearly pensive state, but we also get glimpses of his signature shoe and a throwback photo. All in all, it's hard not to think Rose is hinting at retirement.

Is this definitely the end for Derrick Rose? No. It's always possible he's hinting at another big announcement. But given this week's news and the fact that Rose hasn't played more than 27 games in the last three seasons, it seems like a farewell to the sport could be imminent.

If this does turn out to be true, we hope that something is already in the works to ensure that he finishes his career with the Chicago Bulls. This could have been the reason for his departure from the Grizzlies, as he can now at least sign a one-day contract with the organization.

Come home, Derrick.
