COREY TAYLOR of SLIPKNOT comments on the stage fight for JANE'S ADDICTION: “I hope they're OK”

During an appearance on the podcast “Your Mom's House” with Tom Segura And Christina Pazsitzky, SLIPKNOT Frontman Corey Taylor was asked to comment on the recent fight on stage between JANES LOOKING FOR Members Perry Farrell And David Navarro. He said (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “That's when my wife woke me up and said, 'Have you seen this shit?' And I said, 'Uh, no.' It's sad, man, because I know them both. And David Navarro is one of the sweetest souls on the planet. Perry is also very sweet, man. He's never been anything but damn nice to me. And when I see that, I don't know what's going on. And obviously, I don't want to make any assumptions because I don't want it to be damn blown out of proportion. It looks like – it could be chemical, it could be behavioral, it could be because they've known each other for 40 damn years, man. There are so many myths about their relationship, who damn knows what that could be at this point? So I just hope [Perry is] okay. I hope Daveis okay. I mean, I contacted him to see if he… I texted him Dave to see how he was doing. He responded to me. He said he was cool. But obviously he doesn't want to say anything because they're trying to figure out what the hell they're going to do.”

Unfortunately, the remaining dates JANES LOOKING FORThe tour was cancelled due to the dispute. Corey said: “I have been waiting to see the original four – me and clown [SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn Crahan]Strictly speaking. clown'sa solidJANES LOOKING FOR Fan, dude. He studied that shit like the Zapruder Film. And he came to me and just said: “Dude, Tayloryou don't fucking know.' It's crazy.”

Praise JANES LOOKING FORunique sound, Corey added: “[Perry is] one of the best – there's no way to imitate his voice. And the people who try, it sounds like they're killing themselves. It's so high up, but it was so perfect.”

He continued: “I compare [JANE’S ADDICTION‘s debut album] “Nothing is shocking” with [GUNS N’ ROSES‘ debut LP] “Appetite for Destruction”for me. It's just one of those examples of a perfect album because you can put the album on and just start and never have to skip anything. Even 'Thanks guys' is a damn wonderful listen. It's just a great, great album.”

Back to the consequences of JANES LOOKING FOR Fight on stage, Taylor added: “I hope they're OK. And knowing what relationships can be like within a band, it's pretty damn hard, especially for a band that's been around for so long, dude.”

When we talk generally about the challenges of keeping bands together over several decades, Corey said: “I know bands that have been around for five years and this shit happens to them. You just never know. When you spend so much time with people on tour and go from the highest highs to the lowest lows and everything in between, it gets personal and you just never know what's going to happen on any given day.

Page [Wilson, SLIPKNOT turntablist] and I, one of my best friends, he's my brother, I almost killed him one night,” Taylor explains. “We have recorded [the] “Catastrophe pieces” [concert video in February 2002] um — I would say it was London [Dockland] Arena, but I could be wrong. And he did exactly what we told him not to do. And I was so fucking mad. I was drunk too, so that didn't help a damn thing. There's a clip online and it's totally taken out of context. Most of us had body cameras. So he went right into the audience when we were doing the seated part during 'Spit it out'. And we told him not to do it this time because we didn't want people to steal those cameras. And he did. And they did. And he didn't understand why we were mad. And he came back and said, “I'm fucking furious; I'm like, 'Aaargh.'” And he said, “Dude, you have to tell them to give the damn camera back.” And I just snapped at him. I was like, “Shut up…” It was one of the worst moments of my life, and I just didn't give a damn. And to this day, I feel bad about it. And it's a very real moment that everyone can see. And taken out of context, it's so fucking awful.”

JANES LOOKING FORThe show on September 13 at the Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston ended suddenly after Farrell encountered Navarro's shoulder with his own before seemingly yelling at the guitarist. Navarro Then he put a hand between himself and Perry before Farrell seemed to strike at him. Then another man jumped between them and ended the fight.

Farrell later apologized to his bandmates, fans and family, saying that his “breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior and I take full responsibility for how I handled the situation.”

When JANES LOOKING FOR Members NavarroBassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins announced the premature end of their tour, they wrote that they had “no choice but to cancel the tour” due to “a persistent pattern of behavior and the mental health issues of our singer Perry Farrell.” They added: “Our concern for his personal health and safety, as well as our own, leaves us no other choice. We hope he finds the help he needs.”

The show in Boston was part of JANES LOOKING FOR's co-headlining tour with LOVE & ROCKETS.
