West Allis police unit rammed during traffic stop, man charged

A Milwaukee man is suspected of ramming a West Allis patrol car with a police officer inside during a traffic stop on Sunday.

Prosecutors charged Andre Skeets, 31, with second-degree reckless endangerment of public safety and obstructing an officer. His first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26, according to court records.

West Allis police stopped a minivan that had been reported stolen on Hawley Road near the Hank Aaron State Trail. Prosecutors said the officer positioned his squad directly in front of the minivan and got out. When the officer saw the driver moving, he got back into the squad. The driver then hit the gas and crashed into the squad “with great force.”

Other officers then attempted to pull the driver, since identified as Skeets, from the minivan. A criminal complaint states that he “continued to attempt to accelerate back and forth” while officers attempted to detain him. Eventually, officers deployed a Taser to arrest him.

Prosecutors said a gun was found in the minivan. Skeets claimed he bought the minivan for $750 from someone he knew.
