Enid man arrested in 2023 woman's death, initially reported as suicide

The Enid Police Department (EPD) arrested a man in 2023 for the death of a woman.

According to EPD, 34-year-old Juan Daniel Resendiz was arrested on September 26 on a warrant for first-degree murder.

The investigation that led to Resendiz's arrest began on May 4, 2023, when Resendiz called 911 and said his girlfriend, Brooklyn Smith, had shot herself in the head.

The coroner determined that Smith's death was unknown.

On September 5, 2024, EPD investigators received information that Resendiz was responsible for the shooting.

After an investigation, the EPD concluded that there was sufficient suspicion and obtained an arrest warrant against Resendiz.

He was taken to the Garfield County Detention Center.

Resendiz's bail was set at $250,000.
