Suspect charged in kidnapping of two Ashland County children

BARRON COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) – A suspect is in custody after being accused of kidnapping two children from Ashland, Wisconsin.

According to the Barron County Sheriff's Department, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 3:30 p.m., the Ashland Police Department notified the Barron County Sheriff's Department that they had received information that two children, ages 6 and 3, abducted from Ashland may be in the area of ​​the LE Phillips Scout Reservation near Haugen.

A suspicious vehicle was found in the Barronett area.

The suspect was arrested and the two children were found.

The children were taken to a hospital to check their well-being and then reunited with their families.

The suspect, 30-year-old Gage Ackley-Dechant of Drummond, was booked into the Barron County Jail on a probation warrant.

According to Amber Alert information, one of the children has the same last name as the suspect.
