HBO releases teaser trailer for the second season of “The Last of Us”

The first dedicated teaser trailer for The Last of Us Season two was released by HBO along with three posters (below).

Set to the haunting sounds of Pearl Jam's “Future Days,” the new footage continues the story of apocalypse survivors Joel (Pedro Pascal), Ellie (Bella Ramsey), and Joel's brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna). It also introduces new cast members, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Catherine O'Hara also guest stars this season.

The official description: “After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie's shared past catches up with them, embroiling them in conflict with each other and in a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”

The 2023 debut season of The Last of Us was HBO's most-watched first season. The new season will premiere sometime next year. The season was nominated for eight Emmys, including for the performances of Pascal and Ramsey and for Best Drama Series.

The release date coincides with The Last of Us Day, September 26, the day the Cordyceps virus outbreak occurred in the original. The Last of Us Video game by Naughty Dog.

The Last of Us was written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. The series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television and is also produced by Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O'Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan and Evan Wells.
