Where was Murder in a Small Town filmed? Discover the beauty of British Columbia

It's officially time to trade hot summer nights with friends for cozy evenings at home with your new favorite fall TV shows. These days, streaming platforms make it all too easy to watch entire shows in one sitting, but there are still some programs that keep audiences waiting for more with a weekly release schedule. One of the new additions to the latter category is Murder in a small townbased on the Karl Alberg novel series by LR Wright. On screen, Rossif Sutherland plays the title character, “a detective who moves to a quiet seaside town in search of peace of mind, but finds that 'this gentle paradise holds more than its fair share of secrets,'” according to Terrace Standard.

Where was “Murder in a Small Town” filmed?

While the books are set in the small town of Sechelt, British Columbia in Canada, location crews were based in Gibsons, BC. Production began in January 2024 and ran in the area until May, with producer Nick Orchard previously promising Murder in a small town would be part of Fox's fall slate. This is the company's first scripted series co-produced with an international studio; the company has acquired U.S. rights to the series, which comes from Vancouver-based Sepia Films in association with LA-based Future Shack Entertainment.

“In each self-contained episode of the first season, Alberg uncovers mysteries and investigates murders that take place in the community's idyllic setting,” explains PR Peak. “[The first season] doesn't necessarily end on a cliffhanger. The biggest sequel story is Alberg and Cassandra and their relationship, which has ups and downs. So people might want to come back and see what happens with that.”

More than 120 cast and crew members helped bring the show to life, and some of them got big acting opportunities through their extra roles. “It was a fantastic crew,” said Orchard. “Everyone got along really well. Most of the crew members have told me at some point how much they enjoy working with each other.”
