Teenager faces trial for Nashville car crash that killed La Vergne man

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Metro Nashville Police have released more details about a fatal crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

The driver of a Ford Transit van who died in a traffic crash on Murfreesboro Pike near Mt. View Road has been identified as 41-year-old Walter Guillermo Hidalgo-Gonzalez of LaVergne, police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that an exiting Honda Civic crossed the center turning lane and collided head-on with the Ford van at approximately 4:20 p.m. After the crash, Hidalgo-Gonzalez was taken to TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center, where he later died.

Police said the driver of the Honda, 18-year-old Fredy Hernandez Escalante, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Once released from the hospital, Escalante will face charges of driving without a license or insurance.

There were no signs of impairment in either driver, MNPD added.
