Semi-trailer driver arrested with handgun after incident of driving aggression in Lancaster County

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – A Fremont man was arrested Wednesday after being accused of threatening another motorist with a handgun during a DUI incident in Lancaster County.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. south of Lincoln on Highway 77 and Saltillo Road.

A man called 911 to report that a truck driver hauling livestock pointed a teal 9mm handgun at him after he was cut off on the highway. The victim, who was traveling with his 1-year-old daughter, told police he feared for her life.

Officers stopped the driver, later identified as 30-year-old Nathan Dorries, near Highway 77 and West O Street and recovered the handgun from the back pocket of the driver's seat.

Dorries was arrested on suspicion of terroristic threats, use of a weapon to commit a crime, possession of a firearm by an unauthorized person and failure to disclose a firearm.

Dorries was already convicted of fleeing arrest in 2016.

Lancaster County Sheriff's Deputy Ben Houchin said no one was injured in the incident. He also stressed the importance of calling authorities in similar situations. “It's not worth losing your life or getting hurt because of an incident like this,” Houchin said.

Houchin added that incidents of road rage involving firearms appear to be becoming more frequent and urged drivers to “hold back and call us” if they feel threatened.
