Suspect arrested, accused of selling psilocybin mushrooms to middle school students in Colorado

Police in Colorado Springs have arrested a suspect accused of selling psilocybin mushrooms to middle school students. Two of those students were hospitalized earlier this week after police said they received an “overdose” of the hallucinogenic mushrooms.

According to investigators, police were notified Tuesday morning that two teenagers had overdosed on psilocybin mushrooms at Fox Meadow Middle School and were taken to Memorial Children's Hospital.

The police learned via the “Telegram” app that a total of four young people between the ages of 12 and 16 had come into contact with an adult drug dealer. Investigators said the teens met the retailer the night before in a King Soopers parking lot for the transaction.

Investigators said they worked with a juvenile's parents and were able to use the child's cellphone to communicate with the dealer. During the investigation, investigators posed as a juvenile and ultimately conducted an undercover purchase that led to the arrest of Damien Solano.

Police said Solano, 21, had about two ounces of psilocybin mushrooms on him at the time of his arrest.

He faces multiple charges, including unlawful distribution, manufacture, delivery or sale of a first-degree drug offense and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
