4-year-old killed, 2 other children hospitalized after head-on crash in Catawba County during 'heavy rain.'

CLAREMONT, NC (WBTV) – A four-year-old was killed and two other children were hospitalized after a head-on crash in Catawba County during “heavy rain” Thursday morning.

The accident occurred around 8:10 a.m. Sept. 26 along Boggs Road near Hunsucker Drive; The road was closed for about two hours.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a GMC Acadia traveling westbound on Boggs Road crossed the center line and struck a GMC Yukon in heavy rain.

According to police, a four-year-old girl died from injuries sustained in the collision. Two other children, a 12-year-old and a 2-year-old, were taken to hospital with “life-threatening injuries.” Three other people – including both drivers – were taken to hospital for “non-life-threatening injuries.”

Initial investigations found impairment was not a factor. Possible charges are pending after the investigation is completed.
