Plattsburg police released information about a swatting incident at HS Plattsburg | Thursday morning Top stories

(PLATTSBURG, Missouri) Sergeant Ryan Jensen of the Plattsburg, Missouri Police Department released information regarding a hitting incident at Plattsburg High School on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

Sergeant Jensen explains:

At approximately 11:02 a.m., Plattsburg officers and Clinton County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a reported active threat through the Veteran's Suicide Hotline at Plattsburg High School, 800 W. Frost Plattsburg, Missouri. The initial report said a person was locked in a bathroom with an AR-15 rifle in an attempt to harm students at Plattsburg High School.

The Clinton County R-III School District was placed on lockdown due to the threat and police responded with multiple agencies to search the building with a rifle for the reported individual.

Personnel from the Plattsburg Police Department, Clinton County Sheriff's Office, Lathrop Police Department, DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, Buchannan County Sheriff's Office, Clay County Sheriff's Office, Kearney Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the school. Due to the validity of the source, a full response from the active shooter was requested.

No person with a firearm was located during the elementary and secondary searches of the middle and high schools. No one was found in any of the schools' toilets during the searches. After the searches were completed, the superintendent was informed that the schools were safe and no active threat had been identified. Based on this information, R-III School in Clinton County was released from lockdown and resumed classes.

Parents who wanted to pick up their students followed standard district procedures to pick up their children from school.

The Clinton County R-3 School District utilized a parent notification program to keep parents and family members informed during the incident.
