Charges in June fatal crash involving teen in Mashpee, MA – NECN

A driver has been charged in a fatal crash involving several teenagers on Cape Cod this summer, authorities said Thursday.

A 17-year-old died and other occupants of the Toyota Rav4 that crashed on Carleton Drive at Swain Circle in Mashpee around 2 a.m. June 25 were injured, authorities said.

Jack Burns was charged with reckless driving and assault with a dangerous weapon after a Barnstable County grand jury heard evidence from prosecutors, the Cape & Islands District Attorney said Thursday.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Falmouth Juvenile Court; The date has not been set. It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney who could speak to the charges.

A vehicle crashed into a tree in Mashpee, killing a teenager and injuring six others.

According to the public prosecutor's office, another person in the vehicle was seriously injured.

According to Mashpee police, seven teenagers ages 15 to 17 from Mashpee and Falmouth were in the SUV when the driver lost control and crashed into a tree, causing severe damage to the vehicle.

Six of the seven teens were taken to the hospital, where a 17-year-old from Mashpee was pronounced dead, police said.
