Vail K-9 officer blamed for £12 interstate drug bust

VAIL, Colo. (KKCO) – A Vail K-9 officer is credited with helping seize 12 pounds of drugs during a traffic stop on a Colorado highway.

Sheriff's deputies said the driver was pulled over for minor traffic violations on Interstate 70 near Vail last week, but it quickly turned into more than just a traffic stop. Police said K-9 Officer Crosby was then called in to assist.

The dog was only certified in March.

He and his handler reportedly found five packages that tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl.

According to the Eagle County Sheriff's Office, there are currently two suspects in custody, both located in Nashua, New Hampshire. 32-year-old German Elizando Lopez-Rodriguez and 38-year-old Guadalupe Lopez-Rodriguez are charged with four drug offenses. The two men are being held on $250,000 bail.
