Driver seriously injured in accident in Bethel

Oxford County sheriff's deputies and local emergency responders were called to a crash on West Bethel Road just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

An initial investigation revealed that 56-year-old Douglass Jones of Newry was driving a black 2024 GMC Sierra pickup truck eastbound on West Bethel Road when the vehicle crossed the center line, struck a guardrail, and left the roadway came off and drove about 30 meters into the forest.

The sheriff's office said the truck sustained significant damage and Jones suffered life-threatening injuries.

Jones was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Central Maine Medical Center.

The cause of the crash is unknown, according to the sheriff's office. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact the Oxford County Sheriff's Office.
