Police say mother is accused of stabbing her son with a screwdriver

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Memphis police have arrested and charged a woman who allegedly stabbed her son with a screwdriver.

On September 24, officers responded to a call at Newberry Elementary regarding aggravated abuse.

When officers arrived, they were told by a witness that she saw the young victim running and screaming, “She's trying to kill me.”

According to the affidavit, Miriam Castillo, the victim's mother, threw him out of the car and attacked him.

MPD says Castillo bit her son and stabbed him in the leg with a screwdriver when he tried to take her car keys; They also note that Catillo smelled strongly of alcohol.

The affidavit states that Castillo later admitted to being under the influence of alcohol.

Castillo was taken into custody and is now charged with aggravated child abuse, neglect and domestic violence.
