Napa police asked the public to leave the area of ​​an apartment complex on Lincoln Ave. Thursday morning. to avoid as officers investigated a shooting.

Police issued a community alert on their Facebook page shortly after 11 a.m

“Please avoid the area near the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue due to police activity,” the warning said. “Officers are on scene investigating a shooting.”

The shooting happened at an apartment complex on Lincoln Ave. Aerial footage showed police cordoning off a building in the complex.

Napa police told CBS News Bay Area there is no danger to the public at this time. To date, authorities have not released any information about the nature of the incident.

The Napa County Sheriff's Office also had deputies on scene, but the sheriff said Napa police were the lead agency in the shooting investigation.

Napa police later issued a second community alert just after 2 p.m. to avoid Kennedy Park until further notice due to police activity, but did not say whether that activity was related to the earlier shooting.

Police said more information would be provided as it becomes available.
