Odds, tips and predictions for Army at Temple

The Black knights of the army (3-0, 2-0 AAC) travel to meet the Temple owls (1-3, 0-1) Thursday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let's analyze the 24/7 college football odds from BetMGM Sportsbook Army against temple Opportunitiesand make our college football picks and predictions.

The Black Knights are literally on the rise in the AAC so far. Army is undefeated in 3 games, 2 of which are within the conference. Army averages 429.7 yards of offense per game, with the majority of that coming on the ground. It ranks second nationally with 356.0 rushing yards per game.

Army won its AAC opener 24-7 at FAU as a 1-point underdog, while last weekend it beat Rice 37-14 as a 7.5-point favorite at Michie Stadium in West Point. The defense also only allowed 28 points in three games.

Temple earned an impressive 45-29 win over Utah State last weekend in Philly, winning as an underdog by 6.5 points. This follows a solid 28-20 loss as a 17-point Dog on September 14th, also at home.

However, the defense was held down by 28 or more points in all four games. Temple is particularly vulnerable to the run, giving up 221.8 yards per game, which ranks 126th in the FBS. That's threatening when the army comes to town.

Army at Temple tips and predictions

forecast

Army 35, Temple 17

Money line

Army (-550) will set you back 5 1/2 times your potential return, and there is no way to bet on such a heavy favorite. In the long run, this is a losing betting strategy. You would have to wager $10 for every $1.82 of winnings. That's just too risky.

HAPPENand instead pay attention to the spread.

Against the spread

ARMY -13.5 (-110) is a strong game on the street. It's a short trip from Army to Philadelphia for the Black Knights, and they're used to this venue as it often hosts Navy in the annual season-ending game.

The Black Knights are a running machine, and so far neither FAU nor Rice have offered much resistance within the AAC. Due to a crazy scheduling quirk, this will be Army's third straight game against a team nicknamed the Owls.

Temple +13.5 (-110) is terrible against the run and will have tremendous difficulty stopping the Black Knights' powerful triple-option attack.

Over/Under

OVER 45.5 (-110) is the piece that deviates from the norm.

When you have a running team like Army, the conventional wisdom is to keep the total low. A team based primarily on the ground keeps the clock ticking. But Army has scored 37 or more points in two of three games so far and its record on the season is 2-1. Only FAU managed to stop the run in the red zone when it mattered most.

Temple tied the over-under at 2-2. The over came last week when the Owls scored 45 points against Utah State. However, the idea of overplay is based on Temple's inability to stop anyone. All four games this season have seen 28 or more points scored.
